WKYT late Thursday night released information about Alex Poythress suffering from a knee injury. At first, it seemed he would be out for a game or an undisclosed amount of time, but, things took a turn for the worse with the following was reported from WKYT.com.
“WKYT has confirmed the injury is a torn ACL. Poythress has started eight games and is averaging 5.5 points, 3.8 rebounds in 20 minutes a contest for the top-ranked and undefeated Wildcats. Poythress is leading UK at the free-throw line shooting at an 86 percent clip.
UK coach John Calipari will hold his regularly scheduled press conference Friday afternoon at 2:00. WKYT will have more information when it becomes available.”
Alex is a great kid and is par to graduate soon in his Junior season of basketball. Truly a heartbreaking situation for the kid.
It’s too early to talk about how this could impact the team considering the bad news this kid is going through. There will be time for that later.
Check out some tweets surrounding this sad news concerning Alex from players, media, and fans. More will come as the news spreads on Friday.
