AP All Time Top 100 – KENTUCKY #1 ALL TIME PROGRAM (not that we already didn’t know that)

KENTUCKY #1 ALL TIME PROGRAM

Tell us something we already didn’t know. If you haven’t seen “The List” check it out here, it has some jaw dropping historical numbers.

Some numbers from AP All-Time Top 100 are as follows:

75.37% of all polls
Jan. 18, 1949 (first-ever poll)
124
1950s, appeared in 89.63% of polls, but 1990s were close with 89.33%.
1960s, appeared in 59.59% of polls.
The Wildcats have missed appearing at least once in the poll for only three seasons during the 68-year history of the AP poll, the fewest poll-less seasons of any program. Those seasons were 1952-1953, 1988-1989, and 1989-1990.”
It’s interesting to note that his decade could end up being the best all time once completed.
The Top 10 lookes like this:
1 – Kentucky
2 – North Carolina
3 – Duke
4 – UCLA
5 – Kansas
6 – Indiana
7 – Louisville
8 – Arizona
9 – Syracuse
10 – Cincinnati

You can check out the AP story here.

Winter and Kentucky Basketball Is Coming – PUMP UP VIDEO

Kentucky Fan Made Video

Kentucky fans have a passion like no other. We paint our faces blue, we name our kids after players, we spend hours putting together videos like this one.

This about it, what would we do in the winter without Kentucky basketball?

Ken the Andel is the maker of this one and here is what he had to say about it.

“My first hype video for UK basketball. Every Kentucky fan knows that when the weather starts to cool and the snow begins to fall, it’s basketball season. So, I figured why not combine Game of Thrones and the words of House Stark with UK basketball to get excited for the upcoming season. Hope everyone enjoys, and Go Cats! :)”

From Finishing Line Press:

“blistered asphalt on dixie highway: Kentucky Basketball is Poetry in Motion”

by Ron Whitehead

Winner of the 2015 Open Chapbook Competition

Ron Whitehead’s book is an accessible, soulful, gritty handbook-exposé of hoops fanaticism. His poems capture the glory, humor, and pain that comes with being a fan. But as Whitehead roots for his team, the reader roots for the poet, the family man, the dreamer, the perpetual child who never loses hope, and always keeps his eye on the ball and his head in the game. It’s an important, fun read that brings you straight into the heart of basketball. The heart of Kentucky. The heart of America.
Frank Messina
Poet Laureate of the New York Mets
Poet, writer, editor, publisher, scholar, activist Ron Whitehead is the author of 30 books and 40 cds. He has performed thousands of shows, with musicians and bands, round the world. He has produced over 3,000 poetry & music events, festivals, and non-stop 24 & 48 & 72 & 90 hour Insomniacathons throughout Europe and the USA. He has published over 2,000 titles. He recently returned from a Finland and Estonia Tour where he was the featured poet at four international arts festivals. When not traveling the world he home bases at his hermitage on Cherokee Road in
The Highlands of Louisville, Kentucky.
Check out the video where Ron Whitehead gives a reading of the following poem below.

blistered asphalt on dixie highway

august 1966 i’m 15 we’re running full court
shirts and skins blistered asphalt on dixie highway

valley station louisville south end
high top converse black and white

so damn hot the court is sizzling
and so are we pass pass pass

then shoot don’t let the ball touch
the street 2 hours running non-stop

loser sits but we keep winning
then cannonball off the high dive

valley swimming pool oh the lovely ladies
crank up WAKY 79 rock n roll am radio

blistered asphalt on dixie highway
valley station louisville south end

From Ron Whitehead:

It may be high summer but it’s time to think about BASKETBALL!!

Hello Friends! The number of pre-order copies sold of my new book will determine the number of books printed. I invite you to pre-order my new book.

Starting in late October and all the way through basketball season I’ll be presenting readings here there and everywhere. When I see you at the reading I’ll gladly sign your copy of my new book.

Thank you!!

I’m excited to announce that my award winning new book

blistered asphalt on dixie highway:
Kentucky Basketball is Poetry in Motion

is now available for pre-order, https://finishinglinepress.com/produc…

The book is about my 65 years of experiences with basketball and, ultimately, life in all its manifest forms. My longtime friend New York Mets Poet Frank Messina suggested the idea for the book to me. There’s a chance Frank and I may be doing a sports reading in New York City bout World Series time.
