KentuckyCrazies.com will be in the process of upgrading our computer systems during the first two weeks of July in order to accommodate our growing Blog, Facebook page, and Twitter feeds. We are also upgrading in order to resume, improve and continue our Kentucky Crazies Podcasts that will be available on the blog and blasted out via Facebook and Twitter. During that time, we will continue business as usual on Facebook and Twitter, but, will not be updating the blog.
Before we continue with the upgrade, we wanted to blast out this important information about a fellow Kentucky Crazy, Parker Ray.
We are all in this together, so, please, share this blog post and please help Parker and his family through their tough journey. We were contacted about Parker and wanted to help.
Dustin and Candy Ray have a son, Parker Ray, who has been diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation. This is a malformation where the cerebellum of the brain is too large and is displaced through the base of the brain that often causes obstruction of spinal fluid. Therapy takes up nearly every day on the calendar and includes occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and feeding clinics. Dustin and Candy have dubbed his journey, “Parker’s Puzzle”, as he remains happy, and loving throughout all of the hardships.
Parker has had a rough ride in his short 20 months of life with frequent trips to the hospital with a variety of health issues due to his condition. He is unable to eat any food with texture and is sensitive to dairy, gluten and soy. In order to maintain health, he has to consume a special ordered formula.
Parker and his outgoing sister, Paige, both love life and bring smiles to those they meet. Paige takes on the “mother hen” role and helps in any way she can since Parker has been born.
The Ray family lives in rural Providence, Kentucky and together with Clay, Kentucky where Dustin is from, is joining together to have a fund raiser to support Parker. Medical and travel expenses continue to burden the Ray family as they strive to get Parker the help he needs. The Ray Family is asking all of us in #BBN to help in any way possible. They have set up an account at United Community Bank in Clay, Kentucky for donations. Every penny can help. Please make a donation to Dustin or Candy Ray with “Parker’s Puzzle” in the memo to:
United Community Bank
54 Hearin Street
Clay, KY 42404
A special note of thanks from the Ray Family as they wanted everyone to know, “WE ARE HUGE KY WILDCAT FANS!!!”
There will be a silent auction July 19th. KentuckyCrazies.com will be donating a few items to the silent auction from our shop to help Parker and his family. Contact Tina Wilson via email to donate items or to donate directly to the cause.
Please do what you can to help support this little Wildcat and his family…
Thank you and we will be back on here very soon!
Donna Howard is a big Kentucky fan and an Early Childhood teacher who currently teaches Preschool at Whitesville Elementary School in Whitesville, Kentucky. She is a certified teacher with a PreK-5 certification and has over 25 years of teaching experience. She recently combined two of her greatest passions and created “My First UK Books” for the future cheerleaders and point guards of the Big Blue!
We recently sat down with Donna and asked her a few questions:
Tell us your name and a little about your background and what you do:
My name is Donna Howard and I am the founder of WiLLDoBooks. I am married and have 3 children who are all grown and were all very sports oriented throughout their childhood.
What made you come up with the idea for the books?
One evening, I was working on a book while waiting for a UK game to begin. The thought occurred to me, ‘I should just write a UK children’s book’, and that is how “My First UK Books” came to be.
What makes them special in your mind?
These books are special to me because I not only have a passion for children and their learning, but because I am a huge UK fan and look forward to having them in the little hands of my own grandchildren one day.
Why would you recommend them, what are the cool features about the books?
I would recommend these children’s books because they are not only educational and UK oriented, but will also help create future UK sports fan! GO BIG BLUE!!
