TREK XVII took place on June 8, 2014. The annual TREK is to help raise funds for the St. Joseph shelter which helps neglected, dependent and abused children, pregnant teens and sibling groups. The Yewell Boys Home is the only area treatment residence for boys ages 12 – 18. The home is located in Owensboro, Kentucky. There are now two residential facilities for children in need in the Owensboro area.
The boy’s residence next door to the Mission was built in 2011. Staff, board members and friends of the Mission watched as construction progressed on our new building. Seeing the culmination of our long anticipated dream of a home for boys was very exciting.
Annual Trek For St. Joseph’s Peace Mission For Children
David Yewell, along with his family and friends of the community, helps put together a fun TREK each year to celebrate life and to raise awareness for the very worthy St. Joseph’s Peace Mission cause. Here is a short video clip featuring Chad Benefield of WBKR radio walking with David Yewell discussing the TREK and the mission.
Each year, the walk spotlights a local celebrity at the beginning of the event. This years honorees were the World Famous Moto GP racers “The Hayden Brothers” along with Earl and Rose and family.
In introducing the family, David told the story of the time he was in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and walked past a storefront that had a poster advertising the Hayden Brothers appearance at an event. “All the way from Owensboro,” David said, “and I ran into publicity about Owensboro.”
Johnny Maglinger took pictures of the event and wanted to share them with us all at Kentucky Crazies.
Johnny take it away!
